I just noticed a short article in Information Week on how banks like ING are deploying a customer SN siteto attract more young people and companies like Fiserv (a back-end bill paying company) are offering MyMoney a Facebook app to provide basic banking functions.
These are excellent examples of mainstream enterprise using SNs for external audiences. Expect to see more announcements of similar innovative uses of SN in banking and financial services and in other industries as well.

Hi David. "Disruptive technologies" is such an interestign term
– I was an early developer of social networking systems – with Howard Rheingold on Electric Minds & Brainstorms in the late 90's and with Caucus Sustems as Director of R&D before they collapased in the bubble burst. Since then I have been working to develop a system that integrates social networking tools adapted around shared team workflow – we have eveolved some very unique approaches and fully integrate video conferencing via Marratech (includs H323 gateway) – being in Iowa has allowed me to develop without a lot of distractions – but it also isolates me from the larger world you inhabit – I am very motivated to begin exploring collaborative relationships with thoughtful people who are working on new methods and tools for technology enhanced working.
